Family Support

Hello, my name is Elaine Gay and I am pleased to introduce myself as the Family and Pupil Support Worker here at Kempston Rural Primary School.  I have worked as a Teaching Assistant for many years, as well as being trained as an ELSA and Mental Health Wellbeing champion.

My aim is to offer practical help and support to children and their families.  I hope to help as many families as I can to access a broad range of support and services.

Support for parents includes:

  • Providing information on services in our local area, including Family Hubs
  • Completing referrals to relevant agencies e.g. Young Carers, Mental Health team
  • Support to improve school attendance
  • Signposting for help with finances, housing, health etc.
  • Advice on parenting concerns and behaviour worries

Part of my role gives me the opportunity to work closely with children who need extra support to become more resilient, help regulate their emotions, build friendships, boost their confidence and self-esteem.

Support for children includes:

  • ELSA support workshops
  • Small group or 1-1 well-being sessions
  • Supporting positive behaviour and friendships
  • Bereavement support
  • Support with family changes and worries
  • Enhancing self-esteem and confidence
  • Helping with transition to secondary school

If you feel your child would benefit from extra support, please don’t hesitate to contact me to discuss your concerns. Advice and support are confidential, although concerns relating to the safeguarding of children will always be dealt with in accordance with the school's Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.

Please find the Family Hubs latest Summer Timetable below.  It includes a wide range of sessions, groups and support available for local families.

Family Hubs are welcoming community spaces where families can access advice, activities and support all in one place. They offer everything from play sessions and breastfeeding support to wellbeing groups, courses and workshops for parents.
There is something for everyone, so I encourage you to take a moment to explore the timetable and see what might be helpful or enjoyable for you and your child. Many sessions are drop‑in and free to attend.

Behind every child who believes in themself is a parent who believed in them first.
